I thought about starting my own website for quite some time before finally deciding to do so. At first I was hesitant. I felt like a website would aid me in my work as a pastor, but knew the last thing the internet needed was another opinion or commentary on current events. The more I thought about it, though, the more I thought a website would be beneficial. Here are my reasons why:
Blogging
I really decided to start a website when I started developing a new one with my church. Part of that site gave me a space to start blogging. However, I’ve never really been a blogger. This post is the first blog post I’ve ever done. But I feel like I do have some skills that might benefit some of my colleagues in other areas of ministry. For one, I enjoy productivity and keeping up with the latest in tech. I spend my spare time researching the latest apps and software and figuring out how they might help me in my work as a pastor. I plan to do the bulk of my blogging in this area, but from time to time I will blog about the christian life and faith.
Resources
As a pastor, I am always being asked for resources (i.e. books, videos, articles, etc…). I thought I would share them here as well. On this site you will find resources that I recommend to laypeople and pastors alike. As time goes on, I’m sure the list will grow, so check back often.
Connection
I am from Mississippi. My wife is from Oklahoma. We both went to seminary in Texas, but currently reside in Missouri. I’m sure you get the picture. We want to stay connected with many people in the various places we have lived. Our site is one way of keeping people updated, but we also plan to start a quarterly newsletter that we will send out via email. If you’re a friend or family member, please subscribe to our newsletter and respond with an update on what’s going on with you.
Extra Income
Though I don’t have any immediate plans to monetize this site, the prospect of one day being able to bring in some extra income is enticing. I currently serve a small church in rural Missouri and would love to be able to continue serving in small churches even as my family grows. Perhaps as time goes on, I will find some way to earn a bit of extra income through this site. But for now, I’m just happy writing, helping and connecting.
